I am a freelance children's book designer with a husband and 2 cats.
I started designing in publishing right out of college and illustrated some children's books on the side. Most of those are out of print now. A few were full color picture books and some were black line art. At some point I stopped drawing and quickly fell into a creative slump. What happens then is, even if you have the urge to paint or draw, you just can't. Nothing comes to mind and nothing comes out right. This went on for a VERY long time. Then, one day I decided to learn how to knit. A co-worker taught me the first few basic steps and I went on from there. After a few scarves I was ready to try some simple toys. I think that working with my hands again in this way has revived the artist in me. My friend Marci introduced me to the grand world of blogs and when I see all the work that other people have produced, it inspires me greatly. My goal is to do the same for someone else out there who may be in that creative black hole right now. It is possible to escape!
